China is the biggest manufacturer of solar PV cells in the world. According to data from the Earth Policy Institute Chinese manufacturers dominated the global solar PV industry in 2010. The nation produced close to 11 GW of PV cells in 2010.
China is a leader when it comes to solar PV manufacturing. This was the seventh consecutive year in which China at least doubled its PV output. It leaves the competition way behind, with Taiwan as a distant second with 3.6 GW produced in 2010. Japan follows with 2.2 GW, Germany with 2 GW and the United States with 1.1 GW. These nations account for 82% of the total PV production in the world.
